Frequency commission to give resources for 5G nets in Sep–Nov

MOSCOW, Mar 22 (PRIME) -- Russia’s State Radio Frequency Commission will allocate frequencies for the construction of 5G networks in September–November, a representative of the Digital Development Ministry told PRIME on Friday.

The ministry released draft rules of 5G base stations use, saying that equipment in 5G networks can work in the ranges of 450–6,000 MHz and 24,250–52,600 MHz. The rules will take effect in December.

The representative said the exact band for 5G will be set by the frequency commission.

The country still lacks a model of 5G networks development. Digital Development Minister Konstantin Noskov said in January the ministry would like the connection operators to form a consortium to manage infrastructure rather than hold tenders for frequencies or set up a state infrastructure operator.
